From peanut butter to no waste lunch
Let's face it, Dutch lunches are not known for their culinary delights. And that was no different at our lunch ten years ago. So this consisted of simple sandwiches.
Over time, we traded the jars of peanut butter for a more elaborate lunch. No more buttering together, but together on fancy DIY toasts and more. Did we all like it. Tasty, but not as healthy nor as sustainable.
So for the past two years we have been making lunch to order and with almost 100% no waste. We also host Meatless Monday every week and provide vega and vegan options on the other days. Well done and better suited to our diverse community that is mostly concerned with sustainability. It tastes good to be good busy.
community lunch: eating well, doing well
Since the beginning of B. - now almost a decade ago - we have been hosting our community lunch. This provides new energy for the afternoon sprint and relaxed contact.
By having lunch with both acquaintances and strangers, you connect with each other faster and more relaxed. And that, in our view, is the whole idea of a community. By eating well together, you are automatically making new connections. It feels good to be good busy.
Not surprisingly, the community luncheon was an instant and unanimous ridiculous success. And in the last decade has grown into a household name at B.
Side by side
In ten years, what has always stayed the same at our community lunch? Inspired by the Italian way of tutti a tavola (everyone at the table), you always sit together at long tables in one room.
Not knowing in advance who your immediate tablemates will be. And that is precisely the power of the community lunch. We pull you out of your office and out of your socially comfortable bubble.
To make new connections. To get to know people with whom it clicks - on a business or social level. How nice is it when you can get legal advice or meet a UX designer to spar with?
Or as a ZZP-er find new coffee buddies and as a newly relocated expat hear where the real Amsterdammers go out to eat? That's when it fizzles.
